Iowa winner splits $2 million with stepfather

On Friday, a man from Davenport, Iowa, claimed a $2 million Mega Millions® reward that he had won in the game's massive jackpot.

Ben Sanford claimed to have realised he had won significantly soon after the drawing on July 29.

Ben and Jason Sanford said that they frequently purchase tickets together and that they have always agreed to divide any winners.

Ben Sanford, 37, claimed to have purchased six tickets for the July 29 Mega Millions drawing.

The jackpot for the game that evening had increased to over $1.3 billion, making it the second-highest grand prize ever given out in the game.

The first five numbers on one of Sanford's easy-pick tickets that evening corresponded to an initial $1 million prize.

Sanford, however, had chosen the Megaplier® option while making his purchase, increasing the total prizes to $2 million.

In the drawing on July 29, the winning numbers were 13, 36, 45, 57, 67, and Mega Ball 14. The Megaplier was two.
